APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP

This is your application to join the City U3A, a part of the world-wide U3A network, providing learning and social opportunities for people in their ‘Third Age’, the post retirement stage of life when you have time  to widen your horizons.

 

What are U3As?

U3As are voluntary, non-profit organisations which offer retired people low cost educational opportunities to help them stay active in mind and body. There are no formal entry requirements, no examinations and no awards.

U3As are basically self-help volunteer groups, enabling older people to gain or maintain skills and knowledge to provide learning opportunities for themselves at the lowest possible cost.

The U3A movement follows the medieval concept of ‘university’ as a community of scholars where there is no distinction between teachers and students. A leader of a class is likely to become a student in another course.

All the work is done by volunteers, who lead courses, undertake the administration and work on the management committee. Volunteers make the work of the U3A possible.

 

Course venues

Course venues are planned for various parts of the City for the convenience of residents. All venues will be close to public transport and within walking distance for some residents in the neighbourhood.

Members will be entitled to attend the courses of their choice at no extra cost (subject to class limitations) no matter what geographic area within the City the venue is located.

 

Become a member now for courses in 2010

City U3A is seeking members to join courses for the year 2010. The annual subscription fee is $40, with renewal due on 30 June 2011. The subscription covers: administrative costs, rentals, purchase of teaching aids and communications costs (such as website, telecommunications, printing, distribution and postage).
